Recreational Events You and Your Family Should Check Out This Month in Hilton Head

Fort Fremont Tour: Come learn what homeland security looked like back in 1898 by checking out the Fort Fremont exhibit at the Verdier House in Beaufort, SC. During the tour, you’ll learn about how the area defended its coast during the Spanish-American War as well as during other critical points in history.

Jazz Corner Performance: The Jazz Corner, which was voted as the favorite restaurant with live entertainment recently, will present The Lavons Stevens Quartet every Thursday during the month of August. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. by award-winning chef Mark Gaylord and the entertainment will start around 8 p.m.

  • When: 6 p.m. on Thursdays in August
  • Where: The Jazz Corner, C-1 The Village at Wexford
  • Admission: FREE

 Learn About Sea Turtles: During this evening lecture and accompanying walk on the beach, staff from the Coastal Discovery museum will tell patrons about the loggerhead sea turtle’s lifestyle. The group will then split to examine the turtle’s nesting habitat and nest sites. Reservations are required for this incredible opportunity to learn about the beautiful sea turtle.

  • When: 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. from June 5 to August 31
  • Where: Tour starts at Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn, 70 Honey Horn Drive in Hilton Head
  • Admission: $20 for adults, $15 for children; No children under 4

Dig It: Come introduce your children to the field of archeology by bringing them to the Dig It Program at the Coastal Discovery Museum. Once there, participants can excavate a simulated site to identify artifacts and employ actual archeological methods.

  • When: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., now though August 14
  • Where: Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn, 70 Honey Horn Drive
  • Admission: $10 per person
